This purpose of this wiki is to dispel science myths and misconceptions, and further the cause of science literacy.
You can also check out what's going on in our fourth-grade class. Use the navigator and sidebar to get around. The myth and misconception pages are in folders that start with zmyth so that they are at the bottom half of the navigator.
Each page of this wiki will contain a science myth, misconception, or fact.
Myth in our case means a popular belief that is unfounded. In other words, something that a lot of people believe but is not true.
Misconception means a mistaken belief, a wrong idea, a misunderstanding. In other words, mistakes people make because they don't have a clear understanding of the concepts or facts.
We won't worry about the differences between myth and misconception. We'll focus on how they are alike --they lead to wrong ideas about science-- and we'll try to correct them.
We can start by learning the facts and trying to correctly understand what the facts mean. A fact is knowledge or information that is based on things that really happen. It is not always easy to tell if something is true or not. We will have to question ideas before we believe in them.
Mythwiki will take a look at beliefs people have about science and try to determine whether these ideas are true or not.
It will give possible reasons for any misconceptions and provide facts in the attempt to correct the misconception.
Your main goal is to improve your scientific literacy by questioning what you read and hear, backing up what you believe or "know" with reliable scientific evidence (including evidence you collect from your own experiments), and reporting the scientific truth on this wiki.
This goal can be broken down into these objectives:
1. Come up with questions that test whether a "scientific" statement is true.
2. Find evidence that supports or refutes the statement. Evidence can include data you collect from an experiment you design and conduct.
3. Post comments and evidence (including citations) on this wiki.
4. Read what others have posted and make comments that can help lead to the truth.
5. Demonstrate a scientific understanding of at least five of the topics on this wiki.
Here are the ground rules:
1. Be responsible. Don't be silly. This is not a chat room.
2. Be scientific. Use scientific vocabulary. Back up your statements with evidence and where you got the evidence.
3. Be persistent. Don't give up. Check into the wiki regularly and add to your page. Read other student pages and make relevant comments.

Can cell phones actually pop popcorn? Did the ball girl really make that catch? What do you think?
Write your responses in the comment window at the bottom of the page.
it lookd like somebody was under the table and threw the prepopped popcorn up into the air if u look closly but the 2nd one; she could actually do that if she was a gymnast hired for the video.

Eric,
This is truly amazing! How you can fit all of these activities into a school-year is truly phenomenal. I am amazed by the Roth Store, Stock Exchange, etc. etc.
